Let’s start with a not-so-fun fun fact. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, parents report significantly higher stress levels than other adults, and nearly half say their stress feels completely overwhelming most days. (2023 report)
Honestly? That tracks, and it’s kind of depressing. Though outside of being depressing, it does speak to a need for moms to have time off before they hit the point of self-destruct.
You might need a Mom’s Night Off if:
- You’ve reheated the same cup of coffee three times.
- You opened the refrigerator and forgot why.
- You considered hiding in the pantry permanently.
- You’ve answered “Mom?” so many times today it no longer sounds like a real word.
- The thought of nobody touching you for three hours sounds luxurious.
- Your idea of self-care is using the bathroom alone.
- You’ve spent more time managing everyone else’s emotions than your own.
- You can’t remember the last time you finished a meal before someone asked for a bite.
Look, motherhood is wonderful. Until it’s not. Because it’s also fucking exhausting and overwhelming and sometimes downright miserable.
While we can’t magically create more hours in the day, we can at least admit that moms deserve breaks without feeling guilty about it. So if you’re feeling like something in that list above is really hittin’ home for you… maybe it’s time to call in whatever support system you’ve got.
If you had one completely free night off and nobody needed anything from you, what would you do?

I would get take out food from a few different places, a bunch of snacks and bed rott while binge watching tv shows/movies.
I would make a spa day at home. I’d clean up and paint my toenails, dye my hair, put a face mask on, fix my eyebrows, have a bath etc. All of the little things that I’ve been neglecting to do for myself, because I only ever have enough time for a 30 minute shower..
I’d love to a minimal at home night for myself with a delicious DoorDash meal, milkshake and an amazing “girlie” movie!
justtttt helpppp meee pleaseeee
I would probably eat a meal that no one but me likes, cooked by someone else. Music, art and writing supplies, pile of books and snacks near at hand.
I recently connected with a mom and went on a hike. It was wonderful to be out in nature and have a break from kiddos and daily responsibilities. Evening hikes are great to relax and unwind from the day.
A nice long bath, cozy pajamas, favorite Sushi and a movie.
no one talking to me. no one asking for anything. in bed with snacks.
Perfect timing! I’d go have a relaxing dinner with my best friends at a nice restaurant and enjoy being waited on without the cooking and clean-up!
I’d stay up all night to read a book and sleep until noon!
If I had one night off I would read a book. Soaking in the tub with candles and lavender aroma. Leaving the tub, drying off entering dining room with Seven course meal in small amounts with a glass of white wine while going back to read.
I would work on my stories and just let my mind float.
I would relax, have a drink and binge some good movies.
I would order myself a seafood dinner from red lobster, eat, then take a nice warm bubble bath with candles to just be more relaxing and play music while resting in bath. I would then cozy up on couch or in bed and watch a movie
I would order pizza and read a good book.
I would order pizza and read a good book.
Craft a little, read a good book, movie marathon, and snuggle with the pups.
Ordering delivery from different places for dinner and dessert! Ideally I’d be the only one in my home all night.
I’d begin by pouring a nice glass of Pinot. And start my at home hair gloss. Then, everything shower. Skin care is next with a face mask, full skin care routine, a tweeze and tint of my eyebrows with my men’s dye kit. After donning my comfiest set of matching pajamas, I’m giving myself a DIY manicure and pedicure in front of the television where I watch Pride and Prejudice and order my favorite Indian take out.
Have a nice Epson salt bath put on my pajamas, order Chinese food and watch a movie
